Mark W. Phipps

In Memory of Mark Phipps

Surrounded by his family and a few friends, Mark Phipps past away on Saturday, March 25, 2006 after battling cancer. Mark was involved with Deep Run for many years serving in many capacity, last being as President.

Mark was a Deep Run Club President, Board Member, Little League President, and a great man. When you look back on a man's life, and you see the sea of faces he has touched; it truly is a measure of his life's work. May our Deep Run family remember our friend and his family in our prayers. I thank you Mark; for helping build our Field of Dreams. ~ M. Zickler

For those of you who don't know Mark, he, Joe Youk and Jon Kutzner took Deep Run from a nice play to bring your kids to a spectacular place to bring your kids and families for youth sporting events over their time on the Deep Run Exectutive Board. I first met Mark 23 years ago when I started working with him at the same business. We immediately struck up a friendship. After both of us changed employers we stayed in touch but for about a 3 year period I didn't see Mark much. When Mark called me and asked me to be the Deep Run Softball Commissioner I was excited at working with him again. It was hard to say no to Mark. He was the consumate sales person.

Mark was never really into sports until his kids started playing. That is the beauty of Deep Run. Even though sports weren't his thing, when his kids got involved he got involved. First by volunteering countless hours turning the concession stand in to a functional, fun place for the club to raise money and as club president supporting the growth of all the sports. To me, this is what the Deep Run experience is about. Some people coach, some build pavilions, some rake fields, some do the electrical work, some build fields, etc. etc. etc. At the end of the day it is for the greater good of all the families involved. Mark was always the first one at Deep Run on workdays, having picked up the donuts at Landis Markets and getting the coffee ready for the parents and the hot chocalate ready for the kids.

Mark lived his life as an "event". Always planning, always following through on his plans, always bringing pleasure to his family, friends, and work associates. God took Mark too early, but Mark packed in a lifetime of achievement in the years God gave him. Please pray for Kathy, Ryan and Emily. ~ Coach Rob
