Playoff Games - In the first year the playoffs for both the Bolt
and Thunder Divisions were a great success. The Thunder
teams competing were Chase Home Finance-Head Coach: Troy Marshall,
and R & S Keystone-Head Coach: Chris Purcell. R & S Keystone
took the Championship game 4-3 and both the Champions and the runners
up received medallions for their efforts and great play. The Thunder
playoffs were also highlighted by a 2 day-extra inning game between
Landis Supermarkets Inc. and Ken Beer & Sons Excavating. The game
started Friday evening and was suspended at about 8:45 for darkness
with the score 5-3 in favor of Landis Supermarkets. Play resumed the
following morning at 8:00 AM and Ken Beer & Sons Excavating came
back to tie the game. After 1½ innings Ken Beer & Sons
Excavating were the winners of the game 6-5. The Bolt playoffs were
also a great event, with Brooks & Barber Tree Management-Head
Coach Tom Labb taking on Bergey's Jeep-Head Coach Gary Derry. Brooks
& Barber Tree Management went on to win the Bolt
Championship after a scare in the last inning Brooks & Barber
Tree Management had a 10 to 7 lead. Bergey's Jeep scored twice and
made it 10-9. With a runner on third base and two out the batter hit
a shot to the right of the 2nd baseman who caught it to end the game.
Softball Commissioner Rob Martin had the Head Coaches call each of
the players individually out to the mound to receive their medals.
Brooks & Barber Tree Management was singing We are the Champions
and took a victory lap around the bases. It was truly a "FANTASTIC"
end to a GREAT season. Congratulations to all teams who participated
in not only the playoffs, but the entire intramural program
you are all CHAMPIONS! |

EVERYBODY HITS - Once again this
year Deep Run Valley Lady Lightning Softball offered the program Everybody
Hits for all Special Needs Kids, ages 6-16. The program is a noncompetitive
format with the emphasis on fun, and teaching the basic skills of
the game! This program is offered as a community service and no fee
was charged. Instruction is by Deep Run softball players, and was
coordinated by Aubrey Tatarowicz. This is the last year Aubrey will
be running the program since she will be off to college next year.
The Lady Lightning program would like to congratulate her for a job
well done for the past several years, and wish her well in her future
endeavors. |
